Once again i've been a lazy bum and haven't posted much!
Let's see... Well i haven't done hwk for like an entire week so that's gonna come back and bite me on the ass!!!
I'm getting kinda tired of the club seen over here, there are just full of rich snobby ass sketchy rich guys who think they are the shit! ah man i really wanted to sock this one mother fucker who after i said that in the US they give u drug tests when u go apply for some jobs to what this mofoe replied that "oh well i don;t have to worry about that, i've never worked, all i've done is at my daddy's business" oh my god please give me the strenght to not knock one of these mother fuckers out. Oh yeah another thing i've noticed is that all these guys always tellm e that they're part of the seleccion nacional de mexico for some random ass sport. this scrawny little 16 year old (who was in the club illegally) told me he was part of the mexican hockey team! i'm all like bitch please, i mean i didn;t say that but i thought it. then this other guy tells me he got ascholarship to go to LSU and play soccer (this guy i might believe a lil bit more but i'm still doubtful) he said he stayed here cause he just likes it so much here. oh yeah and they've all been to canada! anyways i should probably stop talking about these doubtfull-of-shit jokers,
i miss grinnell parties.
well I did have fun at Cantabar, which is a Kareoke/club, and it was our friend Ingrid's B-Day, well not really cause her b-day is actually today. But i had fun there just chillin and having a couple of drinks.
I actually made a new discovery thanks to Hortencia (another girl from my program). We went to the showing of a documentary at this place called LA 68 (it's a cultural center that i'm pretty sure is run by this one family). It was pretty tight they were showing the doc outside, they have an old spanish house wiht a patio inside and that's where they showed it. there wr a lot of old white ppl there, i mean there was like 2 or 3 kids our age, but it was pretty nice, they offer a drink service and food service. They have some pretty good looking pizzas up in there. I tried this helado de lima (lime ice-cream) with hierbabuena (don;t know what you call this in eng), it was an interestign taste, i didn;t it like it much so i let hortencia eat most of it. I'll probably be hitting that place up more often.
I almost forgot to mention that on our way to LA 68 we saw this punk rock place, they were blasting the punk music and there was this punk store right next door which had some kinky ass leather corset thingy and other leather or whatever stuff. it's crazy what things one will find in such a small city!
right now i'm sitting here trying to make myself start y dang hwk but blogging seemed to distract me.
man i didn;t think i would say this but i actually miss Grinnell academics! fuck yo over here we have to make copies of everything! (talk about copyright infringement!) but i mean it odesn;t sound bad right? well here's the deal we have to make copies of fucken txts that are in different liraries around merida, then if we cant find the damn book we have to chase ppl around to either ask them for thir copies or take the damn book away from them. then i have a prof that always tells us that he'll leave the txts at the copy room but he never fucken does!!!!! shit i don;t have the readings for tomorrow for that class! i went to his office today but he wasn;t there, my friend rachel, who;s also in my class also went to his office on thrusday and friday and he wasn't there!! shit man i wish they had blackboard over here!!!!!
oh yeah i slept through my 8-10am class on thursday, that's the first one this semester, hopefully i won;t do that again.
I've been talking alot about race and otherness in my Caribbean lit class which is pretty interesting, i get to practice talking about race in spanish! now i can probably argue with my racist family members = ), yo don;t get me wrong i mean my family is racist but there mexicans so u gotta understand them a little bit, oh yeah i've also been talking about how we mexicans are pretty racist, that;s in my indigenous author seminar class. damn yo the gov over here (Mexico) has really worked hard to fuck over any type of otherness in a population that to quote vasconcelos is the "raza cosmica" and can;t be different. even through language the gov has been fucking up the "other" but i'll talk more about that when i feel like being all deep and whatnot.
aight well for some strange reason my laptop is going to restart itself cause of some damn updates or something so i'll hopefully see u guys soon.
